It’s probably not a match most of us would thought likely, but after the Jimmy Choo x Off-White collaboration last year, it’s less of a surprise that the iconic shoe brand has chosen another cult label to work with. No doubt designed to bring the Choo brand to a younger, more Zeitgesty customer, the Ashley Williams collaboration certainly delivers the kind of left-field footwear the London designer’s traditional customer is looking for. But in the mix are a couple of elegant pieces that deliver the Choo sophistication, albeit with a twist. Don’t expect these shoes to come cheap though; prices creep well beyond the €1,000 mark.
About the collection, Sandra Choi, creative director of Jimmy Choo, said: “Working with [Ashley Williams] allows us to relook at ourselves – to readdress what we do, to see our work through someone else’s eyes. The collection is proper and rebellious, preppy and punk – refined, classic but with a twist.”
It’s wonderful to see an old-school brand like Choo reinventing itself for the next generation of buyers, and looking at it’s archive to reimagine those iconic pieces in a fresh guise.
These multi-strapped, crystal-detailed shoes, for instance, are based on the archival shape of the Jimmy Choo Kim shoe from 2001. Elegant but with plenty of attitude, they span both designers’ customer base.
